About GemPages Post-Purchase Offer
GemPages Post-Purchase Offer is a strategic feature designed to boost your Shopify store’s revenue by presenting customers with additional deals or upsell opportunities immediately after they complete their initial purchase.
Understanding the payment methods that support this feature is essential for maximizing its potential.
Supported Payment Methods
Currently, GemPages supports the following:
1. PayPal Express
PayPal Express is one of the most popular payment gateways, and it’s fully supported for post-purchase offers.
If your customers use PayPal to check out, they will see any additional offers you’ve set up.
2. Shop Pay
Shop Pay, Shopify’s accelerated checkout method, is also compatible with post-purchase offers.
It offers a fast and secure way for customers to complete transactions, making it a highly effective method for ensuring your offers are seen.
3. Stripe Credit Card
Stripe credit card payments are supported for post-purchase offers on GemPages, but it’s essential to distinguish between two versions of Stripe’s payment processors:
- The old Stripe Card Payment processor, which has been in use prior to 2023, is fully compatible with GemPages’ post-purchase offers. This is the version currently adopted by most merchants.
- The new Stripe Card Payment processor, introduced in 2023, features advanced technology and enhanced security protocols. However, it is not yet compatible with GemPages’ post-purchase offers.
4. Credit Cards
Credit card payments processed through Shopify Payments are fully supported. This allows you to offer upsells to customers paying with major credit cards, ensuring a smooth post-purchase experience.
5. Braintree
Braintree is supported as a payment method, provided that CVV verification is not enabled. This allows merchants to effectively present post-purchase upsell opportunities while utilizing Braintree’s payment processing capabilities.
6. PayPal Pro and PayPal PayFlow
PayPal Pro and PayPal PayFlow are fully supported, enabling PayPal users to receive post-purchase offers after their transactions. These payment methods enhance the checkout experience, allowing merchants to effectively present targeted upsell opportunities right after the initial purchase.
Non-Supported Payment Methods
While many popular payment methods are supported, some do not currently work with GemPages’ post-purchase offer feature.
The following payment methods fall into this category:
1. Digital Wallets
Payment methods like Google Pay, Apple Pay, or other digital wallets are not compatible with post-purchase offers.
2. Offsite Payment Gateways
Payment gateways that redirect customers off-site to complete the payment (e.g., via bank transfers or country-specific gateways) are not compatible with post-purchase offers.
Examples include Mollie, which is popular in Europe, Alipay, widely used in Asia, and Payza, a platform that has been utilized in various regions. In the U.S., some services that might redirect customers off-site, such as certain bank transfer methods, also fall into this category.
3. Installment Payments
Payment methods that allow customers to pay in installments, such as Klarna or Afterpay, are not supported at this time for post-purchase offers.
4. Gift Card
If a customer pays entirely with a gift card, post-purchase offers will not appear. Gift card payments do not trigger the offer display.
5. Cash on Delivery
If your store offers a cash-on-delivery (COD) option, post-purchase offers will not appear for customers who choose this method.
Why Post-Purchase Offers May Not Display?
Understanding these cases can help you optimize your strategy and avoid potential confusion:
1. GemPages Is Not Set as an Active Post-Purchase App
To ensure your post-purchase offers appear, double-check that GemPages is selected as your active post-purchase app in your Shopify settings. If another app is active or misconfigured, your offers won’t display.
2. Orders with 100% Discount
If a customer completes a purchase using a 100% discount code (i.e., a free checkout), post-purchase offers will not appear.
This applies to any orders processed with a gift card as well.
3. Local Delivery or Local Pickup
If the order is designated for local delivery or local pickup, post-purchase offers will not be triggered.
This is a limitation that applies even if a supported payment method is used.
4. Failed Payments
Even when a supported payment method is selected, if the payment fails or the order is not successfully completed, the post-purchase offer will not appear.
5. Orders Paid in Non-Store Currencies
If a customer completes a purchase using a currency different from your store’s main currency, post-purchase offers will not show up.
Ensuring consistency in currency settings can help avoid this issue.
