Change product order in the Related Products section
Since the Related Product element pulls data from your Shopify Store, edit your product order in your Shopify Admin and the order in the Related Product section will follow through.
Step 1: Go to Shopify Admin > Products > Collections and select your collection.
Step 2: Inside your collections, select the “Sort” button to organize your products by one of the 8 available order types:
- Best selling: Bestsellers are placed in ascending order.
- Product title A-Z: Organize products in ascending alphabetical order.
- Product title Z-A: Organize products in descending alphabetical order.
- Highest price: Organize products from highest priced to lowest priced.
- Lowest price: Organize products from lowest priced to highest priced.
- Newest: Organize products from most recently added.
- Oldest: Organize products from least recently added.
- Manual: Manually order your product, when this order type is selected, you will be able to grab and reposition products using your mouse.
Your products’ order type is automatically memorized and applied in Shopify Admin and there will be no “Save” button.
Go back to your previous Collections list and you should see your collection appears at the top of the list, indicating it was modified recently.
“There is no related product to display”
Sometimes you will encounter the “There is no related product to display” error message on your live page, where the Related Product section should be.
This error message is usually displayed on your Preview page or live page and there are two root causes for this.
#1 The collections’ URL includes special words
If you have special words such as “frontpage” and “all” present in your collection’s URL handle, chances are the Related Products element will not work correctly and shows no related product at all.
To solve this, please follow these steps:
Step 1: Access your Shopify Admin > Products > Collections and select the wanted collections
Step 2: Inside your collection, scroll all the way down until you see the “Search engine listing preview” section
Step 3: Click on the “Edit website SEO” blue button on the right to expand more editing options
Step 4: Check the “URL and handle” field to see if it contains any of the two special words mentioned above and update this field as needed.
Step 5: Hit “Save” and exit the collection.
Step 6: Go to your GemPages Dashboard, select your page, and enter the Editor.
Step 7: Publish your page again and check on the live page for the result.
#2 The main product does not belong to any collections
The Related Products element works by pulling data over from Shopify and if your main product is not included in any collections, then the Related Product element cannot display any products at all.
To solve this, please consider adding your main product to one of your collections.
Step 1: Go to Shopify Admin > Products > All Products and select your product
Step 2: Inside the product editor page, scroll down to the “COLLECTIONS” section on the right toolbar and click on the “Search for collections” search bar. All your existing collections will appear in a drop-down list.
Step 3: Check all collections from the list and hit “Save” to save your changes.
Step 4: Go to your GemPages Dashboard, select your page, and enter the Editor.
Step 5: Publish your page again and check on the live page for the result.
Format of Related Product On The Live Page Isn’t the same as on the Editor
If you notice the Related Product section in the Editor looking a bit different from the live page, you might be using an older version of the Related Products element.
To fix this, drag and drop a new Related Products element to replace the old one, and hit Save and Publish.
The Related Products element is a great tool to help you upsell and cross-sell your products. Check out this article for a full introduction to the element.
