How to switch between your original and designed homepages

 

By default, your Online Store’s Homepage will use Shopify Default Template. This article will guide you through the steps to replace it with the Homepage you just created using GemPages and vice versa.

 


 

Replace the Shopify default template with the designed template

 

From the Dashboard


Step 1: Go to GemPages Dashboard > Home Pages tab, locate the Homepage you would like to set as default.


Step 2: Select “Make Default”. 

  


Step 3: A new window will appear, prompting you to confirm the action.


Click on the blue “Make Default” button to set this Homepage template as the default one for your Online Store.

Otherwise, hit “Cancel” to abort.

 

 


From the Editor


Step 1: In GemPages Dashboard > Home Pages tab, select a Homepage template and enter the Editor via the “Edit” button.

 

Step 2: In the Editor, hit “Publish” after you’ve done editing your Home page.

  


Step 3: A new window will pop up. From here, you can see the green “Make Default” button right above the blue “Publish” button.

  


Step 4: Click on the “Make Default” button, a new window will appear prompting you to confirm the action.


Hit the “Make Default” button to set this Homepage template as default.

Otherwise, hit “Cancel” to abort and go back to the first popup window.

 


Revert back to Shopify Default Template

Follow these steps to revert back to your default homepage template on Shopify.


From the Dashboard


Step 1: Go to GemPages Dashboard > Home Pages and locate the Shopify Default Template page, which is always located at the top of your list.


Step 2: Select the “Back to Original” button, a new window will appear prompting you to confirm the action.

 

 

Step 3: Hit the blue “Back to Original” button to proceed with the action.

 

 

From the Editor

 

Step 1: From the Dashboard, select your Home page template and enter the Editor.

 

Step 2: Click on the “Publish” button.

 

Step 3: Select “Discard Default” and a confirmation box will appear.

 


Step 4: Continue to hit “Yes” to confirm the action. This will remove the default status of this template and roll it back to your Shopify default template.


Hit “No” to abort and go back to the first Publish window popup.

The steps below will guide you to quickly revert just your Homepage back to Shopify’s default template.


Step 1: Go to Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > Live theme > Actions > Edit Code.

 


Step 2: Search for the file “index.liquid” in the search bar and open it.

 


Step 3: On the right-side editing panel, click on “Older versions” and select “Original” from the drop-down menu. Each version in this menu includes an exact timestamp of when it was created.

 

 

 

Step 4: Hit Save and exit out of Shopify’s theme editor.
