If you want to customize your default blog post template in GemPages and display article content in your preferred layout, you can achieve this by using the Theme Section feature. This guide will walk you through the process step by step.
Step 1: Access Your Default Blog Post Template
- Log in to your GemPages dashboard.
- Go to Templates > Blog Post Templates.
- Locate your default proposal template—this is the template automatically created by your team.
- Open the template to view its layout.
Note: The default template contains your standard structure, which includes headings, text, and images.
Step 2: Use Your Custom Template
- If you already made a custom template (for example, “Game Page”), select it to use it for your blog posts.
- If you don’t want the default template to show, hide or deactivate it.
- Now, your custom template will replace the default template and be applied automatically to your blog posts.
Step 3: Add Blog Content with Liquid
- Go to the Theme Section where you want to show your article.
- Add Liquid elements to automatically pull blog content:
- Title → {{ article.title }}
- Text → {{ article.content }}
- Image → {{ article.image | img_url }}
- This lets your blog post display automatically, without typing manually.
Tip: Liquid allows you to dynamically display content from Shopify articles or blog posts without hardcoding them.
Step 4: Build and Arrange Your Layout
- Decide which parts of the article you want to show (title, text, image, etc.).
- Add layout blocks, for example:
- Heading (for article titles)
- Text (for content or excerpts)
- Arrow banner or buttons (for links or calls-to-action)
- Drag and drop the blocks to arrange them in the order you like.
- Preview frequently to check spacing and appearance.
Tip: Keep it simple—too many blocks can make the page look messy.
Step 5: Preview and Save
- Click Preview to see how your blog posts look with the new layout.
- Make adjustments if needed (spacing, images, headings).
- Click Save to finalize the template.
